Style of Yoga Instruction
Yoga is a science, philosophy and an art. Where you focus attention in your body, how you shape and move your body, and how you "mix" those shapes and foci, affect different results. Yoga works with this concept consciously, enabling "every part of the human system to become attuned to its essence." -
BKS Iyengar
. In the process of affecting body, mind and consciousness, you may experience more vitality, sense of well being and intellectual clarity. These classes are an inquiry into Yoga, not an invitation but an actual dive into ways of knowing yourself, others, your environment and nature.
You will recieve clear, specific instruction about alignment, anatomy, breath and attention - a lot of it! Props (bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, etc) will be used most classes. But more than tell you what to do or where to feel something, Katy is best at creating a space where one can cultivate awareness, concentration and self inquiry from the inside-out, and outside-in.
Private Yoga Instruction
Do you want to better understand what you are experiencing in your yoga class? Are you starting a Yoga home-practice? Would you like a safe way to begin practicing yoga? Do you have specific concerns best addressed 1 on 1?
An individualized approach to practice deepens practice. By working with Katy, you will increase your knowledge and feeling-sense of your personal movement habits and anatomy. This will spill over to all your daily physical activities (from how you stand and walk to how you play baseball or how you play clarinet....) as well as enhance your time spent in public classes. With more knowledge, your inquiries become more sophisticated. What is your range of motion - not only in your joints, but between your muscles, between your organs? What resources do you have within yourself to draw phsyical, intellectual and spiritual stability and clarity from? Which body systems do you habitually embody, which can you learn more about? You will investigate asana in detail, while practicing at the level that is truly appropriate. Above all, its an hour in which you receive full, knowledgable attention while learning about yourself from the inside out.
